Why Film Logic exists
“I built Film Logic between setups, on working productions, because the tools I could find either lived in a browser tab nobody on set ever opens, or billed us per crew member for software only two people touched. Every feature in here earned its place on a real set.”

The things people ask before they sign up.

How does the free trial work?+
Activating your own app-administrator workspace starts a one-time 30-day trial: every feature, real production use, unlimited collaborators, and no credit card required. Time spent only as an invited collaborator in someone else's project does not start or consume your trial. You can subscribe early and paid access starts immediately, or wait until the trial ends.
How much does Film Logic cost?+
Individual Production is $19.99/month or $199.00/year. It includes every feature, unlimited projects, unlimited collaborators, and 3 active productions at a time. Studio begins at 4 active productions; Education uses an institution-agreed student-project allocation; Enterprise is custom. Scripts are unlimited with Scripts access and use no active-production slots. Disabling Production preserves eligible screenplay editing, viewing and export. Writers can instead buy a $24.99 one-time script-only licence. Taxes, currency conversion, payment-provider fees, and optional negotiated services are excluded.
What counts as an active production?+
An active production is an owned workspace with Production workflows enabled. Individual and the standard 30-day trial include 3 active productions. Scripts are unlimited during the trial or subscription, and with a Permanent Scripts Licence; script workspaces use no Production slots. Disabling Production frees a slot and pauses operational edits, while eligible screenplay editing continues with Scripts access. Shared projects do not use your allocation. Studio starts at 4 active productions; Education and Enterprise use agreed allocations.
What happens when my trial ends?+
Your account becomes read-only, and nothing is deleted. You can keep opening every project, and every export keeps working forever: the full project file (.flc), your screenplay as .fls or .fdx, call sheets as PDF, contacts and schedule as CSV. We never hold creative work hostage. Upgrading ($19.99/month or $199.00/year) turns editing back on exactly where you left off. Just writing? There is a $24.99 one-time script-only licence for the screenwriting tools.
Can I import my existing script, or do I have to write it from scratch?+
Both work. Film Logic supports import and export of .fdx screenplay files: drop one in and Film Logic parses every scene heading, character, and location automatically, with page lengths preserved exactly. You can also import a PDF screenplay, a Film Logic Screenplay (.fls, our own native format), or write a new script from scratch in our built-in screenplay editor with industry-standard formatting, revision colors, and locked pages. Note: the .fdx path is the import we test most thoroughly. We don't import schedules or call sheets from other tools yet, so plan to rebuild those inside Film Logic (most productions are surprised by how fast that goes once the script is in).
What if I cancel? Do I lose my data?+
Cancel any time. Your screenplay exports as a Film Logic Screenplay (.fls, our native format) or .fdx, your call sheets as PDF, and your cast, crew and schedule as CSV. You can also export the full project file (.flc) to your computer at any time, and re-import it later when you renew your subscription, so you always own a complete local backup. The data is yours, we don't hold it hostage and there's no exit fee. Your project also remains read-only in your account for 90 days after cancellation in case you change your mind.
Do crew members need to install an app?+
No, that's the entire point of Crew Live. Each shoot day generates a secure shareable link. Crew open it in any phone browser and see the current scene, next-up, announcements, and progress in real time. No login, no install, no friction. The on-set Asset Library is opt-in for departments that want to capture photos and continuity.
How are call sheets delivered, and what's tracked?+
Call sheets are generated from your stripboard and cast data, then sent through tracked email batches. You see delivered, bounced, opened, and viewed states per recipient, with automatic retries and reminders. Print-perfect PDF is always available as a fallback.
Does it support TV series, or only single features?+
Both. Projects can be configured as Film or Episodic. Episodic projects get an episode manager, per-episode scene pools, and a unified cast directory across episodes. The same stripboard, call sheet, and AD Dashboard tools work for either.
What about access control, can my line producer see everything but my PA only see today's call?+
Roles include Owner, Admin, Scheduler, AD, Department, Viewer, and Crew. Each has a specific edit-vs-view scope. Permissions are enforced both in the app and at the database level, a viewer cannot change project data even if they try to work around the interface.

Is my project data private?+
Yes. Projects are owner/member scoped, only invited members can access them. Crew Live links contain only what's needed to display the live scene (no project data, no member list, no private comments). Email delivery events are verified server-side; sensitive credentials never reach the browser.
How does Film Logic compare to other production software?+
Film Logic keeps projects and collaborators unlimited; pricing follows how many owned productions you need active at once. Individual includes 3 and Studio begins at 4. Film Logic covers screenwriting, breakdowns, stripboard scheduling, tracked call sheets, a live AD command centre, Crew Live, and an on-set Asset Library, plus a Beat Board and a scene-card Story Board for planning the screenplay. Mood boards and drawn shot storyboards are not currently included. Compare scheduling workflows to check the fit for your production.
Who is Film Logic for?+
Indie writer-directors and producer-directors making shorts, features, and web series; freelance 1st ADs, line producers, and production coordinators who carry their toolkit from gig to gig; episodic TV and anthology productions; and ad-film / commercial production houses (there is a dedicated AV script format with client approval workflows). If your production runs on a script, a schedule, and call sheets, it fits.
