A Movie Magic Scheduling alternative
the whole production can open.

Same documents, same discipline, no install. The board, the reports, the call sheet and the shoot day live in one production that your producer, your AD and your coordinator are all looking at, from any machine, for US$19.99 a month with unlimited collaborators.

One production, not one laptop

A Movie Magic schedule is a file. It lives on the machine it was built on, and everyone else gets a copy: emailed, dated, printed, and out of date the moment the next change lands. Most of the version chaos on a small production starts there, not in anyone's competence.

Film Logic holds one production that people open rather than receive. The AD moves a strip and the coordinator building tomorrow's call sheet is already looking at the result. Nobody asks which version is current, because there is one.

What you get

The whole run, from screenplay to shoot day

Import the .fdx or PDF and the scenes, headings and characters come across. Tag the breakdown scene by scene. Drag the strips into days, with banners for meals and company moves, and watch page counts and day totals move as you go. Check cast and location availability while you schedule rather than afterwards.

Then the paperwork comes off the same board: one-liner, Hollywood one-liner, shooting schedule, Day Out of Days, daily category totals, a shooting calendar, breakdown and element reports, cast, set and location directories, and a conflicts report. Thirteen in all, every one a view of the production rather than a document somebody retyped.

And then the part most scheduling tools stop short of: build tomorrow's call sheet from the day you already scheduled, send it for approval, distribute it as a PDF and track it per recipient. On the day, the AD dashboard runs the floor, and the crew open Crew Live on a phone with no login and no app to see where the day has got to.

Everyone, at no extra cost

Unlimited collaborators on every plan, each with a role that controls what they can change. The producer, the first AD, the coordinator and the line producer can all be in the same production without a licence conversation, and crew who only need to look at the day never need an account at all.

There is no per-seat charge here and no per-machine licence. The price is for the production.

Any machine, including the one in your pocket

Mac, Windows, a hired laptop, the production office desktop. Nothing to install, nothing to license per device, nothing to move when the machine changes.

And the phone is not a cut-down viewer. The production app runs on a phone: script, breakdown, stripboard, cast and location availability, reports, call sheets and the AD dashboard are all there and all editable. Script Supervisor is the one module that stays on desktop. You can move a scene from the back of a van and print the revised call sheet before you have found a desk.

Try Film Logic if

  • The schedule keeps arriving as an emailed file and nobody is sure which copy is current.
  • More than one person needs to change the plan, and you would rather not buy a seat for each of them.
  • You want the call sheet, the distribution and the shoot day in the same place as the board, instead of in a second product.
  • Your team is spread out, works across Mac and Windows, or needs to change the schedule from a phone on a location.
  • You want the crew to see the day on a phone without installing anything or creating accounts.
  • You are shooting episodic and want per-episode scene pools inside one production.

Stay where you are if

  • You schedule where there is no connection.
  • A studio or completion bond expects Movie Magic's own files.
  • You need Movie Magic Budgeting alongside it from the same vendor.

Run it yourself

Rebuild one finished schedule

Take a production you have already shot, where you know what the plan should look like, and give it an hour.

  1. Import the script. Scenes, headings and characters come across.
  2. Break down three scenes, including one with a vehicle and an effect.
  3. Build two shooting days and produce a cast Day Out of Days.
  4. Move one scene between days, then look at availability, day totals and every report.
  5. Build the call sheet for the changed day and send it to yourself.

Step four is the one to watch. That is the moment a schedule normally becomes four documents that have to be reconciled by hand, and it is the whole reason this product exists.

One thing to know before you start: we import screenplays, not Movie Magic's native schedule files, so an existing board is rebuilt rather than opened. On a feature, allow an afternoon.
